15th Century Bridge at Eltham Palace

With the beauty of Eltham Palace and its gorgeous grounds as a backdrop, English Heritage hosted the A Grand Medieval Joust on Saturday June 18th and Sunday June 19th. Knights, Jousting, Fire Eaters, Jesters, Falconry, Archery - it was a brilliant day out!

After walking across the 15th century bridge that spans the moat, our ticket also gave us access to the 1930s Art Deco Eltham Palace. The palace is a blend of the old and the new. It incorporates Edward IV's 1470s Great Hall, with its magnificent arching oak roof, into the manor house built by Stephen and Virginia Courtauld in 1933. Once you've toured the house and the Great Hall, there are 19 acres of colourful, winding gardens to explore, which personally was my favourite!

Easily reachable by public transport from Greenwich, take the DLR to Lewisham and then a direct train to Eltham (also direct trains running from London Bridge).
