My rambles took me slightly further afield last week, all the way to the turquoise shores of Croatia! We landed on the Dalmatian Coast, where temperatures in the summer hover around 32C and the pebble beaches slide into the clear Adriatic.
We spent the week at the Sensimar Adriatic Beach Resort and I seriously cannot recommend this resort enough. From its modern rooms, delicious food, beach on your doorstep to the amazing sea views, it was absolutely terrific! The resort staff are wonderful - you're made to feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
A 30-40 minute walk from the resort will take you to the small town of Igrane. Hugging the bay, it has several restaurants and shops (and some lovely coconut gelato!).
The resort runs a daily coach transfer to the larger city of Makarska, where you will find lots of cafes, restaurants, shops and a harbour bursting with yatchs and tourist ships. Click here for more information about Makarska, the centre of the Makarska Riviera.

But if you're looking for a week of pure rest and relaxation, there's really no reason to leave the resort grounds. With its own spa, pool area, restaurant, bars and the beach, you can easily fill your day soaking up the Croatian sun and swimming in the sea.

We booked our all-inclusive trip, which included flights and coach transfers to the hotel (the hotel is about a two hour journey from Split airport, but went by very quickly), through Thomson Holidays. Having everything bundled together made the holiday easy and stress-free. Even though our package was all-inclusive, we brought along with us some Croatian Kuna (HRK) for when we travelled outside of the resort.
Check back next week for Part 2 for some excursion suggestions in the Makarska/Split area :)
