Pen+Line - Modern Calligraphy Workshop

What a lovely way to spend a Saturday morning - surrounded by tea & croissants, ink & paper, learning a new creative technique at Craft Central in Clerkenwell.

Calligraphy is something I'm completely new to, but I've always loved handwriting and letter writing, so I immediately signed up for the class as soon as I saw it advertised. It's a great way to learn a new skill and get a different set of creative juices flowing.

The workshop is designed for beginners and because of the small class size, there's plenty of opportunity to ask questions and receive help with areas you're finding a little tricky.

The two hour workshop flows from calligraphy basics to some freestyle lettering of your own by the end of class. Rebecca and Christy of Pen+Line, who run the workshop, are so friendly, patient and knowledgeable. The atmosphere in the room is all about developing your own style and as with all things, practice makes perfect. That's why it's so brilliant that you're able to take the calligraphy tools away with you after the workshop, to continue working on and exploring your own style day-to-day. I also found the process of practicing the shapes and lines of each letter incredibly calming, almost meditative - a very relaxing way to spend a morning.
