View from the hill in Greenwich Park, looking towards the River Thames

Greenwich Park is stunning in EVERY season! It's as beautiful in the summer, bathed in sunlight with picnic blankets stretched across its lawns, as it is during these cool Autumn days, the leaves turning every shade of yellow, orange and red imaginable. Greenwich's 183 acres of parkland, south of the River Thames, has something for everyone to enjoy. Here's my TOP TEN of what to see & do in Greenwich Park (including some lesser known sights at numbers Four & Five):

Shepherd Gate Clock

ONE:

Visit the place where time begins! The Royal Observatory in Greenwich standardised time across the UK from the mid 1800s. Global Time Zones are measured from Greenwich's Prime Meridian, which divides the world into its Eastern and Western Hemispheres. Step on the Prime Meridian and find yourself in two places at once!

TWO:

Feeling peckish, or just fancy a place to sit and warm up? Stop in for tea, coffee or cake (CAKEEEE!!! - sorry, momentarily distracted ;) at The Pavilion Tea House in the centre of Greenwich Park, or the White House Bakery (in the corner of Greenwich Park).

Herb Garden, Greenwich Park

THREE:

The fragrant Herb Garden in Greenwich Park is definitely worth a visit. From Mint, to Sage, to Lavender, to Rosemary, to Oregano - you'll find 28 different types of herbs in this lovely garden.

In the southwest corner of the Park is the Rose Garden. Best experienced in the Summer, 113 different types of roses bloom here! The explosion of colour in the warmer months is just incredible.

FOUR:

Near the Rose Garden are the remains of Queen Caroline's bath. She was the estranged wife of King George IV, and lived in Montague House from 1798-1814. The House was demolished in 1815, following Queen Caroline's departure to Europe. The excavated bath is all that remains of Montague House, which formerly stood to the south of the Ranger's House. FIVE:

Did you know that there's a secret garden hiding off the main path in Greenwich Park? (who doesn't love a secret garden!) Take a left off The Avenue and you'll find yourself at The Royal Observatory Gardens. Sealed off from the main park, enjoy the Garden's peace and tranquility.

Thanks so much for stopping by! Check back next week for Part 2 of my Greenwich Park TOP TEN.
